My role: lead designer for two conferences (Seattle 2023, Boston 2024). I designed the main conference graphic, including a skyline element hand-drawn in vector from each host city’s landmarks, and carried it across every printed and digital piece: banners, wall and floor clings, sponsor signage, meterboards, tabletop and meeting-room signs, name badges, swag, and two PowerPoint templates presenters used to build their talks. I prepared all files for print production.

The International Space Station Research and Development Conference is an annual event that brings together scientists, engineers, policymakers, and industry leaders. Its purpose is to share breakthroughs from ISS research, explore new opportunities for innovation, and highlight how space-based science benefits life on Earth. The conference fosters collaboration and advances the future of space exploration.

Space Station Science

The International Space Station Research and Development Conference is designed to showcase the impact of space-based science and foster collaboration between researchers, industry leaders, and policymakers. The hosts curated the experience by inviting engaging speakers who could bring complex topics to life, scheduling fun and interactive events to keep the energy high, and securing major sponsors to support and elevate the program. Together, these elements created an environment that was both informative and inspiring.

I designed of the print and digital graphics was crafted to mirror this spirit, reflecting the depth and excitement of cutting-edge scientific research in space.

Setting the Stage

When I joined the conference team, the event already had history but needed a refreshed, cohesive visual identity. The organizers asked for a subtle logo update and a consistent design system. I introduced a green-to-blue gradient, echoing Earth’s colors as seen from space, and paired it with versatile space backgrounds. Star density was carefully adjusted—lighter for text-heavy layouts, denser for decorative applications. This flexible system unified everything from posters, banners, and stage backdrops to name badges, tabletop signs, and wall clings. I designed the conference website; development was handled by a separate developer.

The result was a clean, stylish identity that reflected both the professionalism and wonder of space research.
